LA Transit Shoe Show: Ruffles and Bows and Flowers, Oh My!

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 30, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

Another trend at the 2011 Spring-Summer L.A. Transit Shoe Show was the detailing on the shoes such as ruffles, knots, bows, flowers, and rosettes.

This row of vertical ruffles on these platform ankle booties were popular in 2010 too, but in 2011 we’re going to see more of them on heels, booties, and flats, and they will be found in every color, material, and even print!

These satin open toe pumps with the horizontal ruffles by Carlos Santana were divine in almost every color of the rainbow! I personally like the more neutral shades as pictured above, but there were very bright ones as well which can tend to look like bridesmaid shoes (and that could be a good thing if you’re looking for pretty bridesmaid shoes!).

The knotted detail on these platform sandals pictured here felt so soft in a very light cloth material. I suspect these shoes are pretty comfortable as well with the soft material, cushioned platform, and big chunky heel.

Here is another satin open toe platform pump but this time with bows and pleated satin details. I love both colors pictured here.

These Rick Bella platform wedge slingbacks are also in satin and feature a sparkly flower. The neutral shades make these wedges more of an evening shoe, and the cork wedge makes this shoe comfortable! 🙂

I know, I know, what are these flats doing in the mix with all of these heels…but with the flower (and leaf) details on these shoes by Caressa, I had to include them!

The pink platform wedge sandals (center) by Lisa for Donald J. Pliner feature two flowers on the straps, and I think these must be one of the most comfortable shoes in this post with the cork wedge and the rubber traction sole.

Rosettes on ankle booties were popular in 2010 also, but I included these suede cuffed platform ankle boots as well because I like the way the cuff and the rosette are combined in one boot. 🙂

Well, I hope you liked the ruffles, bows, and flowers…usually people love them or hate them…so which side are you on? Feel free to comment on any of these shoes!

LA Transit Shoe Show: Sparkle and Glitter in 2011

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 29, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

I have a couple of more posts coming soon regarding the LA Transit Shoe Show I attended last week, more on trends for shoes in 2011, more on the upcoming Spring-Summer 2011 shoes, and more of my favorite photos! I hope you are enjoying the pics of the new shoes as much as I am! 🙂

To kick off the weekend, tonight I’m showcasing some of sparkly, glittery, and flashy heels that will be available soon for the spring and summer. Enjoy!

I like the multiple ankle straps and the detailing…what do you think? Yay or nay? I wish I could have tried them on though. I would like to see how comfortable they are in the ball of the foot. There is not much padding or cushioning…

These sparkly strappy sandals by Carlos Santana were very pretty, but I questioned the sales rep on their comfort because the straps are round, like a rope, not flat against your skin like most straps on sandals. I felt the straps with my fingers to see for myself, and I still question the comfort while walking. It seems to me like the straps may rub the skin and irritate, possibly causing a blister or abrasion. Of course, I wanted to try them on for myself to be sure, but darn! of course they only have size 6 or 7 on display at the shoe shows…so I will have to wait until I see them in the store to try them on! Once I do, I will definitely report back on this blog about how the straps feel. (If any of you know first hand, please feel free to comment on this!)

OMG, as I reported in a recent post, Naughty Monkey had two of my favorite shows in the entire show but they are too new to be photographed…so again, I will have to get back to you on those! But these platform wedge sandals with the sparkles on the wedges themselves also stood out from the rest. The sparkles here are beaded detailing, so I gave them a thumbs up for originality, and they do look comfortable with the cusioning and the platform wedge. 🙂

These platform sandals by Chinese Laundry were also stand-outs in the sea of shoes at the show! Although they are very high, they do seem comfortable with the cushioning, the platform, and the cork heel. Hmm…gold or black? Decisions, decisions…  🙂

These peep toe pumps by Paris Hilton with the sparkly bows were very pretty and looked comfortable with the padding in the insole. Notice the pink padding in the ball area of the foot in each of their shoes.

Yes, you have seen this photo before (in the Animal Print post), but now I want to showcase the glitter platform pumps by Rick Bella Shoes/Wah Lei Footwear. They are already taking orders and selling out of these as fast as they can get them! Each of the silver, gold, and pewter glitter pumps are beautiful…and once again, I wish I could have tried them on!!! Soon enough I will!

And last but not least, gold and black glitter platform pumps by Carlos Santana. The combination of black and gold (kinda reminds me of the Steelers song, Black & Yellow, Black & Yellow…) works in this shoe! 🙂

Well, I hope you got a little taste for what is going to be hot this year in the spring & summer. Enjoy!

I had the pleasure to take photos of some beautiful shoes coming out soon, so take a look and tell me if you like them, love them, or hate them! (I already know a few of you did not appreciate some of them that I posted as my “shoe of the day” last week.)

LA Transit Shoe Show: Bright Bold Colors Trending in Heels in 2011

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 24, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

Bright, bold colors! That’s what you’ll see this summer in heels. Color blocking in shoes (as well as dresses, but that’s not my area of expertise…so back to the shoes!) is included too.

Bright, bold colors were everywhere at the shoe show this week and along with these colors were all kinds of embellishments from metal studs to jewels to crystals to spikes, just see below in the photos I took:

Blue will be one of the hot colors for sure! It was everywhere, all shades from the royal blue above to the turquiose blue below…and all the shades in between.

Both of these Penny Loves Kenny shoes above and below use some unique color combos in their color blocking: turquiose blue with kelly green and hot pink with bright orange. It might not sound good, but they sure do look good! And the metal studs on the toe adds a little something extra. 🙂

(It may look like red and pink in the photo, but trust me in person it was bright orange and hot pink.)

These heels by Enigma use some interesting color combos too: pink/baby blue/dark yellow, turquoise/hot pink/white, and dark yellow/lavendar. For the summertime, with the right dress or shorts outfit, they could look super cute! 🙂

These ‘Remi’ slingbacks by Lisa for Donald J. Pliner are a little more neutral than some of the previous examples, but still have the bright blue blended in with the light grey/dark grey on the upper of the shoe, so I wanted to include them. What do you think? Do you like the blending of colors in this shoe?

These wedges are also by Enigma and again this company uses some bright colors to highlight the details on their shoes. Here we see bright blue and dark yellow combined with a neutral wedge heel, and the bright colors are highlighting the light colored laces.

And last but not least is this pair of turquiose heels by Naughty Monkey with jewel embellishments which, I must add, looked much better in person… and I also have to admit that my FAVORITE pair of shoes at the show were by Naughty Monkey, but they are brand new so I was not able to take a photo of them…so, as soon as they are out on the market, I will surely write about them and show them to you! 🙂

Well, this was just one of the trends in heels for Summ2011 that I saw at the show…I will be posting a few more this week!

I hope you enjoyed this little preview of the summer heels coming to a store near you soon enough!

LA Transit Shoe Show: Trends in Sandals in 2011

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 23, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

Inspiring is an understatement! At the LA Transit Shoe Show this week, I had the wonderful opportunity to see the shoes coming out this summer, so I am writing a series of blog posts on the shoe trends that I personally experienced at the show. I was even allowed to photograph the shoes! It was like shoe heaven! 🙂

(Of course, there were a few exceptions to the photographing of the shoes…nobody was allowed to take photos of a few styles by a few designers, but that’s ok because they will be public very soon and I will definitely let you see them at that time!)

My last post focused on flats, and today’s post is all about sandals. In the next few days I will focus on pumps, wedges, boots, and more! So here are the Summer 2011 trends in sandals:

These sandals by Dollhouse with the ruffle details looked exactly like the ruffled heels that have been so popular this year! They were super cute and come in all sorts of colors and a few prints too. I have to admit I loved them!

These jewel embellished flip flop sandals by Yellowbox are hot, super comfortable, and trending this summer! As you will see in some of the other photos, the jewels and metallic straps will be all over the place this summer.

Again, here we see jewel embellishments and metallic detailing on the straps on these Jessica Simpson sandals.

And again on these Jessica Simpson sandals.

These sandals by Onex are also showing metallic toned straps (as well as some colorful straps) along with crystal and jewel embelllishments.

And again on these sandals by Onex. 🙂

Believe it or not, these cuffed ankle flat sandals by Wanted, which have been all the craze this past year and will continue to be hot this summer, pictured above are kids’ shoes! Of course, they were shown in women’s sizes too, but I thought that they were so cute in these tiny sizes!

These are also kids’ sandals by Wanted, as you can see how small they are next to the slinky, but again the ankle cuffs on flat sandals (and on other flat shoes as well) are trending this year.

This was just a small sampling of the summer sandals that are coming to stores soon. I hope you enjoyed the photos, and I will be showing you some great heels tomorrow! 🙂

LA Transit Shoe Show: Trends in Flats in 2011

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , on January 20, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

While attending the LA Transit Shoe Show this week, I noticed a lot of interesting trends for the Spring/Summer shoes in 2011. In this post, I am strictly talking about FLATS. Although most of the shoe lovers reading this love their heels, we can all agree that there is a time and place for flats.

Flats are hot, hot, hot this season! There were so many flats with so many different detailing that I couldn’t help myself…I had to show you! I went crazy snapping photos of some of my faves (with the shoe vendors’ approval, of course!). So here are some of the hot-off-the-press newest flats coming out this year:

Check out these two pairs of pearl and bead embellished flats on the left next to the two pairs of matching heels on the right by Angeles Shoes! Both the flats and the heels stood out from the crowd, and I must say that I loved both of them and would wear either one of them.

All Black had a lot of flats that I liked (as you will see) such as these beaded and pearl embelleshed ones with a little splash of jewel tone colors added for a little extra pop. These could work with a lot of colors and outfits.

A huge, and I mean huge, trend in flats this season is bows! These flats by Angeles Shoes have the bow and the little white beads which work well together.

The bow on these flats by All Black is a little different but it does make them stand out from the crowd of bows!

All of these shoes by All Black are covered in little tiny rosettes, and they were so soft. They look like they would be stiff, but they weren’t! I have to admit they were super cute in person. I wanted so badlly to try them on, but of course they did not have my size…such is the case at the shoe shows (all of the vendors have either size 6 or size 7 on display).

I have always loved black and white shoes, but really all of these two-color combinations work with these flats from Dollhouse. And they were super duper light weight!

See what I mean? Bows, bows, and more bows! Different types of bows, different sizes of bows, different colors, different materials, but bows were everywhere! (They were on the heels too, but that post is coming soon…) All of these flats by Miss Me? were right on trend with the bows and the metal embelleshments, and they worked! 🙂

This was another hot trend in flats (and heels!)…the jewel embellishments on the toes or straps of shoes, like on these flats by Penny and Kenny in pastel colors that always work in the spring and summer. (Sorry the photo is a little blurry. I’ll try to take another one tomorrow!)

The Wanted booth had so, so, so many shoes (I should have taken more photos!) for both women and little girls. These colorful ballet flats with bows was just one of the many styles that they had on display for both age groups. These are for the women.

And these are for the little girls, and I mean little! It may be hard to tell in the photo, but these were preschool sized shoes!

Red Carpet Shoes at The Golden Globes

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 17, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

Shoes from The Red Carpet at 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards that were noteworthy…from an actress wearing two different color shoes to a very pregnant star in high platform shoes…Check out these shoes and tell me what you liked or didn’t like about them!

Helena Bonham Carter was wearing two different colored shoes with her Vivienne Westwood floral print cocktail dress:

Olivia Wilde was wearing spiked gold platform Christian Louboutins under her full Marchesa ball gown:

What did you think of Heidi Klum wearing this multi-colored silk guaze flowing halter dress by Marc Jacobs with the super high slit and the Marc Jacobs red platform heels with the gold strap?

I think Halle Barry’s dress was more shocking than her shoes…she is wearing a provocative black corset mini dress by Nina Ricci with a long sheer train and bare metallic sandals:

What do you think of January Jones in that skin baring red Versace dress and black patent leather Versace platform pumps? Again, the dress is much more noteworthy than the shoes in this case.

Meghan Fox wore a pale pink Giorgio Armani Privé evening grown with an asymmetrical Swarovski adorned strap and paired it with Brian Atwood shoes. I have to admit I like these shoes a lot!

Well, what can I say about Tilda Swinton dressed in a pale Jil Sandler dress (?) with pale pink pumps that hasn’t already been said? Let’s just leave it at that! Feel free to add your own comments below:

And last but not least, check out the metallic platform pumps by Casadei that Jane Krakowski is wearing while several months pregnant? I know it’s The Golden Globes, but come on! Every podiatrist in the country will say NOT to do this  (and probably every Ob/Gyn and every other MD/DO as well) due to risk of falling and injuring yourself and the baby. When you are this pregnant, your center of gravity is shifted, so walking in high heels is even more tricky than usual, so ladies PLEASE don’t follow Jane’s example!

How to Shop for Children’s Shoes

Posted in Athletic Shoes, Health & Wellness, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 15, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

Since our slogan is “All shoes, all the time!” today we are talking about children’s shoes. (We will be adding some men’s shoes and running shoes posts soon too!)

When shopping for children’s shoes, it can be tricky, especially for toddlers or other small children who can’t verbalize to parents how good or how bad the shoes feel on their pudgy little feet. Another factor to consider is the shape of your child’s foot. Consider asking yourself these questions when shopping for shoes for your little ones: “Does my child have flat feet?” “Does my child walk in-toed (commonly referred to as pigeon-toed)?” “Does my child over pronate?” “Does my child wear his or her shoes out unevenly?” “Does my child seem to go through shoes quicker than average, as compared to my other children?” “Does my child wear orthotics (which will usually require a half size or full size larger shoe)?” “Does my child complain of painful heels or painful feet while walking or running?” If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you have special considerations to make when buying shoes for your child. After reading these tips, if you still have questions, feel free to ask me below in the comments section or ask your podiatrist. 🙂

Here is an excerpt from my podiatry blog on this subject:

“Shoe Shopping Tips:
*Shoes that don’t fit properly can aggravate the feet. Always measure a child’s feet before buying shoes, and watch for signs of irritation.
*Never hand down footwear. Just because a shoe size fits one child comfortably doesn’t mean it will fit another the same way. Also, sharing shoes can spread fungi like athlete’s foot and nail fungus.
*Examine the heels. Children may wear through the heels of shoes quicker than outgrowing shoes themselves. Uneven heel wear can indicate a foot problem that should be checked by a podiatrist.
*Take your child shoe shopping. Every shoe fits differently. Letting a child have a say in the shoe buying process promotes healthy foot habits down the road.
*Always buy for the larger foot. Feet are seldom precisely the same size.
*Buy shoes that do not need a “break-in” period. Shoes should be comfortable immediately.
*Make sure to have your child try on shoes with socks or tights, if that’s how they’ll be worn.”

I hope that helps the parents with questions on the subject! Happy shopping, moms and dads (and grandparents)! 🙂

Designer Shoes Do Not Have To Be High Heels!

Posted in Fashion, Shoes with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 14, 2011 by The Shoe Expert

Designer Flats (photo from

Do you remember my Dec. 15th post Which Designer Shoes Do You Want? (By the way, the Gucci heels were definitely leading with the most votes. And throughout the year we will be featuring different designer shoes for you to vote on! We may even feature some of the leading shoe stories that are winning the contest!) Well, anyway, this post was a preview to our Designer Shoe Giveaway Contest that we’re currently holding. Please feel free to enter as many times as you wish. 🙂

In this post, I want to be clear that the designer shoes do not have to be high heels. Apparently, there was at least one individual who equates designer shoes with high heels, but as most of us shoe lovers know, designer shoes can be sandals, flats, boots, kitten heels, etc. They can even be the new flatforms…if you’re in to those (but judging from the comments on that post, most women gave the flatforms a big thumbs down). So to be fair to all of the designer shoes out there, let’s look at some that are not high heels…

Burberry embellished ballet flats

Cole Haan Air Avalon Tall Boots

Valentino studded patent leather kitten heel

Ann Taylor kitten heel sandal

Proenza Schouler Flat Zip Sandals

Miu Miu metallic banana flats

Christian Louboutin spiked zipper ballerina flats

Gucci pink thong logo sandals

And let’s not leave the men out either! If a man wins the contest with the best shoe story, he could win a pair of designer shoes too! (Yes, this contest is open to everyone! We are just looking for good shoe stories to share!)

Louis Vuitton

Christian Louboutin spiked flats for men

I hope you enjoyed the variety of shoes in this post! 🙂
