Once again I have to say a big THANK YOU to all of my fans, friends, and readers who have consistently logged in to see what I have to say about shoes, especially women’s shoes! So thank you, thank you , thank you! Because of all of this activity, my blog was picked up by USA Today who interviewed me a few weeks ago to discuss shoes of course. The online version of the article was published yesterday, but the printed version will be available next week.
Some of the shoe types that we discuss in the article are Flip Flops, UGGs (or boots like the classic UGGs),Foldable Ballet Flats, Platform Pumps, Stilettos, Minimalist Shoes (such as the Vibram Five Fingers and the yoga toe shoes), and the dreaded Rocker Bottom Athletic Shoes (yes, we all know about these fashion-don’ts, don’t we, ladies?).
I’m sure if you’ve been one of my readers during this past year, you know that I’ve discussed each one of these shoes at least once. Sometimes on this blog we talk fashion, function, or both, but one thing that we always do is talk shoes!
So thanks again!
One last thank you for helping this blog reach its goal of 60,000 views in one year, which by the way was last week!
For more foot info, you can always view my website or my podiatry blog. But for shoe info, don’t go anywhere! More is to be revealed…
Today is National Flip Flop Day!

On this National Flip Flop Day, the main point of this blog post is to stay safe while wearing your flip-flops! It is mostly common sense, but there may be a few things that may sound new to you too so check it out.
Flip-FlopDo’s & Don’ts (from an old blog post of mine):
DO’S:
• Do shop for a flip-flop made of high-quality, soft leather. Leather minimizes the potential for blisters and other types of irritation.
• Do look for flip-flops that hold APMA’s Seal of Acceptance; these products are shown to allow for the most normal foot function and promote quality health.
• Do gently bend the flip-flop from end to end, ensuring it bends at the ball of the foot. Shoes of any kind should never fold in half.
• Do wear a sturdy pair of flip-flops when walking around a public pool, at the beach, in hotel rooms and in locker room areas. Walking barefoot can expose foot soles to plantar warts and athlete’s foot.
• Do ensure that your foot doesn’t hang off of the edge of the flip-flop.
DON’TS:
• Don’t re-wear flip-flops year after year. Inspect older pairs for wear. If they show signs of severe wear, discard them.
• Don’t ignore irritation between toes, where the toe thong fits. This can lead to blisters and possible infections.
• Don’t wear flip-flops while walking long distances. Even the sturdiest flip-flops offer little in terms of shock absorption and arch support.
• Don’t do yard work while wearing flip-flops. Always wear a shoe that fully protects feet when doing outside activities such as mowing the lawn or using a weed-eater.
• Don’t play sports in flip-flops. This practice can lead to twisting of the foot or ankle, as well as sprains and breaks.
Dedicated to your foot health and to your shoes,

Comfy is the name of the game today!!! Actually, super comfy!
As a lover and expert of shoes, I always stress that there is a time and place for every type of shoe. Flip flops for the beach, hiking boots for camping, sparkly heels for NYE celebrations, and flats for long work days or running errands, right?
Well when it comes to flats, the Claire Studded Penny Drivers from Johnston & Murphy are one of the most comfortable ones I’ve tried on, tested, and worn for an 8-hour work day!
I have the red ones as shown above, but they come in other colors such as black, brown, tan, beige, and navy as well. The leather is so soft, and a thin orthotic will fit comfortably in this shoe if you wear one like I do.
For more information on this shoe, click here and use this promo code until June 30th at checkout for a discount especially for my blog readers and followers: CALSHOE
Thanks to the folks at Johnston & Murphy for allowing me to review your shoes!
Dedicated to your foot health and to your shoes,

LA Transit Shoe Show: Ruffles and Bows and Flowers, Oh My!

Another trend at the 2011 Spring-Summer L.A. Transit Shoe Show was the detailing on the shoes such as ruffles, knots, bows, flowers, and rosettes.
This row of vertical ruffles on these platform ankle booties were popular in 2010 too, but in 2011 we’re going to see more of them on heels, booties, and flats, and they will be found in every color, material, and even print!
These satin open toe pumps with the horizontal ruffles by Carlos Santana were divine in almost every color of the rainbow! I personally like the more neutral shades as pictured above, but there were very bright ones as well which can tend to look like bridesmaid shoes (and that could be a good thing if you’re looking for pretty bridesmaid shoes!).
The knotted detail on these platform sandals pictured here felt so soft in a very light cloth material. I suspect these shoes are pretty comfortable as well with the soft material, cushioned platform, and big chunky heel.
Here is another satin open toe platform pump but this time with bows and pleated satin details. I love both colors pictured here.
These Rick Bella platform wedge slingbacks are also in satin and feature a sparkly flower. The neutral shades make these wedges more of an evening shoe, and the cork wedge makes this shoe comfortable!
I know, I know, what are these flats doing in the mix with all of these heels…but with the flower (and leaf) details on these shoes by Caressa, I had to include them!
The pink platform wedge sandals (center) by Lisa for Donald J. Pliner feature two flowers on the straps, and I think these must be one of the most comfortable shoes in this post with the cork wedge and the rubber traction sole.
Rosettes on ankle booties were popular in 2010 also, but I included these suede cuffed platform ankle boots as well because I like the way the cuff and the rosette are combined in one boot.
Well, I hope you liked the ruffles, bows, and flowers…usually people love them or hate them…so which side are you on? Feel free to comment on any of these shoes!
LA Transit Shoe Show: Trends in Sandals in 2011

Inspiring is an understatement! At the LA Transit Shoe Show this week, I had the wonderful opportunity to see the shoes coming out this summer, so I am writing a series of blog posts on the shoe trends that I personally experienced at the show. I was even allowed to photograph the shoes! It was like shoe heaven!
(Of course, there were a few exceptions to the photographing of the shoes…nobody was allowed to take photos of a few styles by a few designers, but that’s ok because they will be public very soon and I will definitely let you see them at that time!)
My last post focused on flats, and today’s post is all about sandals. In the next few days I will focus on pumps, wedges, boots, and more! So here are the Summer 2011 trends in sandals:
These sandals by Dollhouse with the ruffle details looked exactly like the ruffled heels that have been so popular this year! They were super cute and come in all sorts of colors and a few prints too. I have to admit I loved them!
These jewel embellished flip flop sandals by Yellowbox are hot, super comfortable, and trending this summer! As you will see in some of the other photos, the jewels and metallic straps will be all over the place this summer.
Again, here we see jewel embellishments and metallic detailing on the straps on these Jessica Simpson sandals.
And again on these Jessica Simpson sandals.
These sandals by Onex are also showing metallic toned straps (as well as some colorful straps) along with crystal and jewel embelllishments.
And again on these sandals by Onex.
Believe it or not, these cuffed ankle flat sandals by Wanted, which have been all the craze this past year and will continue to be hot this summer, pictured above are kids’ shoes! Of course, they were shown in women’s sizes too, but I thought that they were so cute in these tiny sizes!
These are also kids’ sandals by Wanted, as you can see how small they are next to the slinky, but again the ankle cuffs on flat sandals (and on other flat shoes as well) are trending this year.
This was just a small sampling of the summer sandals that are coming to stores soon. I hope you enjoyed the photos, and I will be showing you some great heels tomorrow!
LA Transit Shoe Show: Trends in Flats in 2011

While attending the LA Transit Shoe Show this week, I noticed a lot of interesting trends for the Spring/Summer shoes in 2011. In this post, I am strictly talking about FLATS. Although most of the shoe lovers reading this love their heels, we can all agree that there is a time and place for flats.
Flats are hot, hot, hot this season! There were so many flats with so many different detailing that I couldn’t help myself…I had to show you! I went crazy snapping photos of some of my faves (with the shoe vendors’ approval, of course!). So here are some of the hot-off-the-press newest flats coming out this year:
Check out these two pairs of pearl and bead embellished flats on the left next to the two pairs of matching heels on the right by Angeles Shoes! Both the flats and the heels stood out from the crowd, and I must say that I loved both of them and would wear either one of them.
All Black had a lot of flats that I liked (as you will see) such as these beaded and pearl embelleshed ones with a little splash of jewel tone colors added for a little extra pop. These could work with a lot of colors and outfits.
A huge, and I mean huge, trend in flats this season is bows! These flats by Angeles Shoes have the bow and the little white beads which work well together.
The bow on these flats by All Black is a little different but it does make them stand out from the crowd of bows!
All of these shoes by All Black are covered in little tiny rosettes, and they were so soft. They look like they would be stiff, but they weren’t! I have to admit they were super cute in person. I wanted so badlly to try them on, but of course they did not have my size…such is the case at the shoe shows (all of the vendors have either size 6 or size 7 on display).
I have always loved black and white shoes, but really all of these two-color combinations work with these flats from Dollhouse. And they were super duper light weight!
See what I mean? Bows, bows, and more bows! Different types of bows, different sizes of bows, different colors, different materials, but bows were everywhere! (They were on the heels too, but that post is coming soon…) All of these flats by Miss Me? were right on trend with the bows and the metal embelleshments, and they worked!
This was another hot trend in flats (and heels!)…the jewel embellishments on the toes or straps of shoes, like on these flats by Penny and Kenny in pastel colors that always work in the spring and summer. (Sorry the photo is a little blurry. I’ll try to take another one tomorrow!)
The Wanted booth had so, so, so many shoes (I should have taken more photos!) for both women and little girls. These colorful ballet flats with bows was just one of the many styles that they had on display for both age groups. These are for the women.
And these are for the little girls, and I mean little! It may be hard to tell in the photo, but these were preschool sized shoes!
Designer Shoes Do Not Have To Be High Heels!

Do you remember my Dec. 15th post Which Designer Shoes Do You Want? (By the way, the Gucci heels were definitely leading with the most votes. And throughout the year we will be featuring different designer shoes for you to vote on! We may even feature some of the leading shoe stories that are winning the contest!) Well, anyway, this post was a preview to our Designer Shoe Giveaway Contest that we’re currently holding. Please feel free to enter as many times as you wish.
In this post, I want to be clear that the designer shoes do not have to be high heels. Apparently, there was at least one individual who equates designer shoes with high heels, but as most of us shoe lovers know, designer shoes can be sandals, flats, boots, kitten heels, etc. They can even be the new flatforms…if you’re in to those (but judging from the comments on that post, most women gave the flatforms a big thumbs down). So to be fair to all of the designer shoes out there, let’s look at some that are not high heels…

Miu Miu metallic banana flats
And let’s not leave the men out either! If a man wins the contest with the best shoe story, he could win a pair of designer shoes too! (Yes, this contest is open to everyone! We are just looking for good shoe stories to share!)
I hope you enjoyed the variety of shoes in this post!
Christian Louboutin Shoes At Risk For Being Confiscated! Come on, TSA! Really???

Have you heard the latest TSA controversy this week? Yep, TSA is threatening to confiscate Christian Louboutin spiked shoes, claiming they could be a “weapon.” Well, TSA, there are a lot of things that could be weapons in a maniac’s hands…are we going to confiscate all of those things too? A laptop could be a weapon if you hit someone over the head with it…a regular high heel shoe could take an eye out if you really want to…an ipod headphone wire could be used for a number of things…I’m sure you get my point!
And if the TSA weren’t already controversial enough with the inappropriate groping of women and children, the ridiculous refusal to allow some mothers to take their breast milk onto their flight, and of course the racial profiling…now they have to mess with our shoes! Come on, TSA! Get a life and leave our shoes alone!
Who’s with me on this one?
What woman (or man, in some cases) is going to spend close to a thousand or more bucks on Christian Louboutins, walk through an airport in them, wear them on their flight, and then use them like a terrorist’s weapon? Puh-lease! Check out some of these spiked shoes and their price tags!
Here is an actual photo of the TSA in action, harassing Taz Arnold (artist, designer, producer, A.K.A. Ti$a) and his Christian Louboutins:
( Twitpic photo taken be @tAzArnold )
TSA should pay more attention to the actual criminals and leave the shoes out of it!
