This is part 2 of my “wild, crazy, outrageous shoes worn on the runways in 2010″ blog post, but they are not crazy in that we don’t want to wear them! On the contrary…although these shoes may be a little too high or too embellished or too colorful for some of us for everyday use (like me! I don’t think I could perform surgery in them!), these shoes surely inspired many of the shoes that were for sale in the stores this year. The styles were definitely a hit with the women buying shoes…from the wedges to the platforms to the strappy ankle boots…these shoes were incredible on and off the runways!
Wild, crazy, outrageous or not, I think I love all of them!
Burberry Spring Summer 2010 Collection
Christian Soriano Fall 2010 Collection
Christian Louboutin Spring 2010 Collection
Balenciaga Fall 2010 Collection
Rodarte Fall 2010 Collection
Alexander Wang Spring-Summer 2010 Collection
Christian Soriano Spring 2010 Collection
Rick Owens Spring-Summer 2010 Collection
Christian Louboutin Spring-Summer 2010 Collection
Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Collection
Versace 2010 Collection
So just like I asked you in the last post, tell me something: Do you like them?
Or do you love them like I do?
And would you wear them?
If so, which ones?
Just my two cents on these wild, crazy, outrageous runway shoes: my favorites are the white satin Burberry ankle booties, the Alexander Wang animal print wedges, the Rick Owens grey striped strappy open toe shoes, and the rest of them! Would I wear them? Probably!!!

As the new year begins and we look back on the fashion and styles that came out in 2010, we can surely remember some wild and crazy shoes (as well as clothes, but we’re just talking shoes here). And as I stated in my last blog post, the runway shoes are always a little wilder and crazier than the versions sold in the stores. But regardless of the show-stopping looks on the runways, we can admit that some of the shoes shown below are pretty outrageous!
Tell me something: would you wear any of them? Which ones? I’d love to hear this!
I have to give these lobster-claw shaped ‘Armadillo’ shoes from the Alexander McQueen Spring-Summer 2010 Collection the first position here! With all the attention these shoes received when Lady Gaga wore them, they made some big headlines!
The second headline making shoe in 2010 would have to be the mohawk pump in electric blue from the YSL Fall 2010 Collection. It was also made into a boot:
What about third place for these extra high platform open toe pom pom booties from the John Galliano Fall 2010 Collection?
What do you think about these boots from the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2010 Collection? Hmmm…Interesting…
What about these platform shoes from the Miu Miu Spring 2010 Collection? That’s a lot of detailing and embellishments in one shoe!
Yep, Alexander McQueen made the list twice! Check out these fantasy themed super high platform shoes from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 Collection! Wow!
Well, if I can do it to Alexander McQueen, I can do it to John Galliano who also makes this list twice!
What do you think of these platform pumps with stacked pearl heels and (again) alot of detailing shoes from the John Galliano Spring-Summer 2010 Collection?
Well, we have to have at least one fur covered open toe ankle boot in this list! There were many to choose from but, these are from the Roberto Cavalli 2010 Collection.
Well as long as we’re talking about fur covered booties, what do you think of these white ones from the Raphael Young Fall 2010 Collection? The black platform ankle booties are also an honorable mention, so I included both of them.
Yeah, I’m stuck on fur. Last but not least, the eskimo boots from the Chanel Fall 2010 Collection with an acrylic heel have to be included. There is no doubt that these boots inspired many of the furry boots we’ve seen on the streets this year.
Just my two cents on these outrageous runway shoes: my favorites are the electric blue YSL mohawk pumps (which incidentally I have seen in hot pink and black as well) and the Chanel eskimo boots! Would I wear them? Umm…yes! Would I wear the other ones? Not sure about that!
(This is part 1 since there were so many wild shoes this year, I had to make it a two-part post! Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2!)

Shoe lovers, I’d love to see your favorite boots & booties too!
I’m feeling a fabulous Friday approaching, so I need to post some of “My Favorite ____ for Fabulous Friday!” And I am still feeling the sexy style of Stuart Weitzman…so here are some of My Favorite Stuart Weitzman ankle boots:
Stuart Weitzman Camden zip booties $535.00 at Zappos
Of course, it’s almost winter so we’re still talking boots, booties, and more boots. Tall, over the knee, ankle, whatever, but all of them are still hot! As you can probably tell from my previous posts, I love grey. The detail on this shoe is a nice surprise in that chunky heel (a trend we’ll be seeing more of this spring and fall)…and another trend we’re going to see more of in the spring 2011 shoes is acrylic in the heel. Just watch!
Stuart Weitzman camel suede DC Frosty platform cuff booties $285.00 at Bluefly
Of course, another bootie. But this one looks so warm and comfy (and sexy!). The furry cuff is a nice touch, and I love this color! It just looks luxurious, and I think I’m in love with these shoes.
Stuart Weitzman Ontherail zip booties $475.00 at Zappos
I know this color is bold and makes a strong statement, but whether or not you love this blue, you have to admit this is one beautiful shoe! I happen to love this shade of blue although I don’t own any shoes in this color (the closest ones would be my Kuru’s, my Crocs, and my running shoes). The zipper detail in the back and the silver heel add some more sparkle and nice touches too. By the way, these shoes are on sale this week for $360.00!
Stuart Weitzman BuckKeen zip booties $525.00 at Zappos
Talk about a festive holiday shoe! I love this color during this time of year; it’s so much better than plain old red. And the buckle is a nice little additon. Yes, please!
Stuart Weitzman Fringes zip booties $535.00 at Zappos
Fringes were another big trend this season, so here you go! Fringes on a Stuart Weitzman bootie…you can’t go wrong here!
Stuart Weitzman Safetybelt zip booties $475.00 at Zappos
And last but not least, the Safetybelt zip booties. Grey again! But this time it’s two shades of grey, some black, and a buckle…I’m asking myself right now “why don’t I own these yet?!”
Dedicated to your foot health and your shoes,
“All shoes, all the time!”
Shoe Trend: Shearling Boots

With this cold winter weather, everyone is trying to keep warm. And as a podiatrist, I must add that warm is good! Warm is especially good for people with cold feet, diabetes, circulatory problems, connective tissue disorders, gout, peripheral vascular disease, anemia, and various causes of foot pain. When someone has one of these conditions and their feet get cold, their feet will hurt even more. Of course, there are obvious reasons for keeping our feet warm, like preventing frostbite…So let’s all keep our tootsies warm this winter whether we have any of these conditions or not.
And so with the cold, the shearling boots are trending in stores and in online sales. I’ve been keeping my eye on some of these boots that look warm, comfy, and cute! Tell me what you think. I’m just going to add that I would wear any of these.
Cole Haan Air Michelle Tall Shearling Boot $278.60 at 6pm
Rockport Gerti Welt Shearling Boots $225 at Macy’s
Maison Martin Margiela Tall Shearling Boots $1,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Cabela’s Winterchase Tall Shearling Boots $79.99 at Cabela’s
And just to make this list complete, I’m including two of my furry boots from my own closet:
my furry boots
my furry Skechers boots
They are both warm, comfy, and cute…and both have their special time and place for me to wear them. We can only wear our heels for the right occasion, even if they are boots! As a foot doctor & shoe expert, I know when and where to wear mine. I’ve been known to wear 5″ heels out on the town, but for everyday at the office or for walking out in the cold rainy weather, I wear what works best: comfortable shoes that keep me warm and pain-free. Just a reminder for my shoe lovers!
Keep your feet feeling great!

“Pump Day” Wednesday

It’s the first day of fall, so let’s take a look at some great fall pumps!
My perfect pump for the fall is grey, and it’s high (but remember what I always say as a foot doctor and shoe lover, everything in moderation! Ladies, we can wear our stilettos if it is for a short time, and if we don’t overdo it!)
Whether open toe or closed toe, I love each and every one of these pumps!
Here are some of my top picks for this week:
CLOSED TOE PUMPS:
OPEN TOE PUMPS:
:) My picks for this week’s “Pump Day” Wednesday!
(Just a note about these wonderful, delicious heels: As you can see, you do not have to spend a fortune to look great this fall! There are some great deals out there in every price range. But make sure they fit good and feel great before you leave the store because the last thing you want to do is invest in some beautiful shoes that are too tight and uncomfortable to wear once you get them home!)

You’ve heard of “Hump Day” Wednesday, but what about “Pump Day” Wednesday?
That’s right! It’s Pump Day Wednesday! Let’s take a look at our favorite pumps…you know, the weekend is right around the corner so let’s get ready for it by planning out what we’re going to wear (on our feet) to those dinners, parties, and everything else.
And let’s face it, women love pumps. Well, women love shoes in general, but pumps in particular. There are so many styles of pumps to choose from these days…from classic to peep toe to strappy to platform to kitten heels…and then there are the colors, embellishments, and materials from leather to suede to python, etc. Wow, who knew there was so much going on with pumps?!
And why do we love them so much? They’re sexy. Linda O’Keeffe describes it pretty well in her book Shoes: A Celebration of Pumps, Sandals, Slippers & More. “Physically, it is impossible for a woman to cower in high heels. She is forced to take a stand, to strike a pose, because anatomically her center of gravity has been displaced forward. Her lower back arches, her spina and legs seem to lengthen and her chest thrusts forward. Her calves and ankles appear shaplier, and her arches seem to heave out of her shoes.”
Here are a few examples for last week’s “Pump Day” Wednesday:
Strappy:
Um…I think I would wear any of these! Yeah, for sure I would!
Please feel free to comment on any of these pumps or post pictures of your own pumps that you own, love, or would love to own.

Sunday’s Fun Days

Sundays are for resting, relaxing, going to brunch, spending time with friends and family, watching football, and basically having fun, right? Mellow, relaxed fun, but still fun! (Sundays are also for rejuvenating and getting ready for another busy week, but let’s not talk about that yet! Let’s save that for Monday’s blog!) Let’s take a look at some fun foot fashions for this week’s Sunday’s Fun Days:
Although school has started and the end of September is drawing near, it doesn’t feel too much like fall is approaching…it’s still hot and sunny here in Southern California, so this Sunday could be a beach day for sure! For the beach, here are some cute and comfortable fun sun shoes:
The Orthaheels are also available for sale in my online store for $54.95: http://www.ourdoctorstore.com/colon/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=737
The Sandalistas sandals by aetrex are also available for sale in my office for $80.00 plus shipping & handling. Click this link for contact information: http://footdoc.moogo.com/
Just a note about the last two sandals: Both of these sandals are super comfy with the built-in orthotic, and that is why, as a podiatrist and shoe expert, I sell them in my office. Most patients can fit into them comfortably, and the orthotics that are built into the Sandalistas can be adjusted (if necessary), making them customizable for certain foot conditions. I have a pair of each of these sandals, so I can personally recommend them for you! :)
Next Sunday let’s look at some other fun shoes, and I will include some that I personally own and wear!

“Step Away from the Sneakers?”

Have you seen Piperlime.com’s new ad that reads “STEP AWAY FROM THE SNEAKERS”? As a podiatrist and shoe expert, I think it’s great! It shows a woman wearing lace-up military-style black booties with a heel of about 4 inches. Click this link or see ad below: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=54005&mlink=54005,2175174,imgLinkModuleShopAds&clink=2175174
So, let’s all take a step away from the sneakers this fall and find other comfortable shoes and boots that are also stylish. This goes perfectly with my Facebook Fan Page Shoe Quote of the Day: “Elegance and comfort are not incompatible, and whoever maintains the contrary simply doesn’t know what he’s talking about” by Salvatore Ferragamo. Shoes can and should be comfortable AND fashionable at the same time. Who says we have to sacrifice one for the other? I say we don’t have to. As a foot doctor, I think that if we just lower the heel a little and use the right materials, our shoes can look great and feel even better!
Let’s look at some examples of shoes and boots that we can wear this fall that are both comfortable and beautiful!
(All of the shoes above can be found and purchased on www.piperlime.com ‘s website.)
Just one last thing: Don’t get me wrong…I’m a woman, a doctor, and a shoe lover! And I love my sneakers and wear them when appropriate, like when I’m running or going to the gym or while I’m operating in the O.R., but we really do need comfortable shoes to wear to those dinner parties, networking meetings, work functions, etc. And what about the women who work in an office or other professional setting? They should not have to choose between pretty heels that hurt their feet and comfortable shoes that are ugly as ____!!!
Let’s hear it for this ad and for the fall shoes this season! Hooray for getting it, Piperlime!

1. Open toe booties are everywhere, in all colors, with all types of embellishments and heels:

2. Military themed boots, from designer labels to faux leather:

3. Kitten heel boots, comfortable and stylish:

Of course, you don’t need all of these, but at least a few will do for the cold months that are just around the corner. What’s in my boot closet for the fall? Here are just a few of my boots that fall into these categories…
