Once again I have to say a big THANK YOU to all of my fans, friends, and readers who have consistently logged in to see what I have to say about shoes, especially women’s shoes! So thank you, thank you , thank you! Because of all of this activity, my blog was picked up by USA Today who interviewed me a few weeks ago to discuss shoes of course. The online version of the article was published yesterday, but the printed version will be available next week.
Some of the shoe types that we discuss in the article are Flip Flops, UGGs (or boots like the classic UGGs),Foldable Ballet Flats, Platform Pumps, Stilettos, Minimalist Shoes (such as the Vibram Five Fingers and the yoga toe shoes), and the dreaded Rocker Bottom Athletic Shoes (yes, we all know about these fashion-don’ts, don’t we, ladies?).
I’m sure if you’ve been one of my readers during this past year, you know that I’ve discussed each one of these shoes at least once. Sometimes on this blog we talk fashion, function, or both, but one thing that we always do is talk shoes!
So thanks again!
One last thank you for helping this blog reach its goal of 60,000 views in one year, which by the way was last week!
For more foot info, you can always view my website or my podiatry blog. But for shoe info, don’t go anywhere! More is to be revealed…
Red Carpet Shoe Dilemma…

I’m writing this 20 minutes before leaving to go to a Red Carpet event in Hollywood. I just wanted to share some thoughts before they leave me… As I was picking out my dress and getting all glammed up for this party, I realized that in order for me to stand comfortably in long lines, walk the Red Carpet, and then stand for possibly hours more at the party, I was going to have to rethink my entire outfit.
My comfy 4″ heels that I designed are at the shoemaker’s shop for a slight adjustment and also for the shoemaker to use as a template for the next pair that will be ready soon…so, which shoes am I going to wear now?
Well, that last question doesn’t really matter to YOU. (I found some sexy black boots that will look great!) What matters to YOU is when this happens to YOU! So tell me, how many times has this happened to you? How many times have you had to do one of these things:
(1) Change your outfit to match your comfy shoes so that you are not in pain all night from the shoes that you really wanted to wear but you came to your senses in time,
(2) Wear the ‘painful’ shoes anyway because you are NOT changing your outfit for comfier shoes. Period. And then you suffer all night in pain, practically limping by the time you get home and possibly even getting blisters,
or
(3) Wear the ‘painful’ shoes anyway because, like in #2, you are NOT changing your outfit for shoes that are comfy…but then you end up taking the shoes off at the party or at least by the time you are heading home, doing the dreaded barefoot walk on your way back home
???
Almost all of us women have done all of some of these due to the comfort vs. fashion dilemma.
So which side do you fall on? Sacrifice your fashion or sacrifice your comfort? Wondering minds want to know! OK, I want to know!
Tonight I tried to compromise with the black boots, but I’m not thrilled about it! I really wanted to wear the heels that are at the shoe shop!
But back to the debate: What I would love to do as a shoe expert and a foot expert is to mix the fashion and comfort into one and give you a shoe that doesn’t hurt your feet! So stay tuned…I’m working on it, ladies!
Dedicated to your foot health and to your shoes,

Lady Gaga in 24 inch heels…Yes, that’s right! 24 inch heels!
Earlier this week Lady Gaga attended a fashion award show, the CFDA Awards, where she accepted the Fashion Icon Award wearing these shoes! Wow!
Here is a close-up of the shoes…
Well, love her or hate her, she does push the limits in music and in fashion!
(Tell me what you think of these shoes in the comments section below. Would you ever wear these under any circumstances? Did she pull it off? Do you think she’s a fashion icon or just plain crazy?)
You know what I think of these by now, especially if you’ve read my previous blog on the Sky Heels…Dr. Michele

Top 10 Shoe Searches (Part II)

in Fashion, Health & Wellness, Shoes Tags: boots, Christian Louboutin, comfortable shoes, designer shoes, Dr. Michele Colon, feet, foot doctor, foot expert, Footwear, high heels, hot shoes, orthotics, Platform shoe, podiatrist, Shoe, shoe expert, shoe trends, Soles4Souls, Ugg boots, Uggs
So back to the Top Ten list…
6. Seven inch heels: Have you ever tried walking in 7 inch heels? It’s not easy! I have to admit I have tried some on just to see how difficult it is to balance and walk in them, but to put it mildly, it’s like walking on your tippy tippy toes. Not easy and not even pretty most of the time…because you can usually tell that the person in them is trying really hard to balance or that they are in pain. Not a good look. But, nonetheless, people are searching for these shoes.
7. Sky heels: Did you see my post on these Sky Heels? Wow! Not only are they 9 inches, but they are very odd looking. They’re about half heel and half platform, so the platform is really big and really high. Again, not a great look! I personally do not even think that a platform that high is sexy, although I do like a small platform on my heels for added cushioning. But this is taking the platform heel look too far! (Not to mention dangerous…I’m sure there have been some ankle sprains and maybe even fractures from these shoes.)
8. Soles4Souls: As an official drop-off location for Soles4Souls, I have blogged about this organization on more than one occasion and have highlighted them in my monthly newsletter as well. And I am proud to say that my office (patients included) has donated over 500 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls in 2011 so far!
9. UGGs: I hope you all read my post about making your UGGs more comfortable! Because although many people already think that UGGs are comfy, if you add an arch support like the sheepskin Lyncos orthotic from Aetrex, you will wonder why you never tried it before! It’s a great addition to boots (and other shoes as well) which will give you more support and comfort…try it and see!
10. Christian Louboutin 2011: I am not surprised that, out of all the shoes floating around in cyberspace, Christian Louboutins’ shoes made it to the Top Ten…but I am a little surprised that it didn’t make it to the Top 3! (especially with all of the recent press surrounding the red soled shoe lawsuits)

I know it’s not even spring or summer yet, but the shoe shows are always at least one season ahead of us so that the buyers for the retail stores can see what’s coming out, place orders, and have the shoes in the stores in time for all of us shoppers to buy them!
So what are some of the trends for this fall? Boots of course! You name it…ankle booties, wedge boots, stiletto heel boots, open toe boots, sweater boots…
Here are just a few of the popular sweater boots:
What do you think about the sweater boots? Love them or hate them? I have to admit I do like them. My faves from this list are G by Guess and Jil Sander.

I’m on my way to Las Vegas for the WWD Magic / FN Platform Show Shoe…and I cannot be more excited to see the new shoes coming out this fall! I know, I know, it’s not even spring or summer yet, right? I hope you’re excited too!
What I want to know is…what do you want to see more of? Heels? Boots? Ankle booties? Stilettos? Trends? New colors? New designers? Let me know ASAP so I can get some great photos and post them! Most of the shoe vendors like to see them posted for more free publicity.
So for this trip, what happens in Vegas will NOT stay in Vegas! What happens in Vegas will be blogged about!

I just want to say a big THANK YOU to the shoe lovers out there that have been supporting and reading this blog of mine! On Sunday, this blog hit 10,000 hits and is growing day by day, thanks to all of you!
To show my appreciation, I will continue to blog and post photos, articles, quotes, and other shoe-worthy news! February will be a great month for shoes with Valentine’s Day, the FFANY show in NYC, the WSA & FN Platform/Magic shows in Las Vegas, and the KSA (Kids Shoe Association) next week here in LA. Wow, that’s a lot of shoes!!!
And I might add that most of these shoe shows will be featuring their 2011 Fall & Winter Collections (and it’s not even spring or summer yet!) Well, that’s how it goes in the fashion & apparel industry…they’re always a season or two ahead of time to get the stores ready for you.
Here is a little collage of just a few of my own personal shoes on my own personal feet that I’ve captured in photos over time, in celebration of our 10,000 views:
Designer Shoes Do Not Have To Be High Heels!

Do you remember my Dec. 15th post Which Designer Shoes Do You Want? (By the way, the Gucci heels were definitely leading with the most votes. And throughout the year we will be featuring different designer shoes for you to vote on! We may even feature some of the leading shoe stories that are winning the contest!) Well, anyway, this post was a preview to our Designer Shoe Giveaway Contest that we’re currently holding. Please feel free to enter as many times as you wish.
In this post, I want to be clear that the designer shoes do not have to be high heels. Apparently, there was at least one individual who equates designer shoes with high heels, but as most of us shoe lovers know, designer shoes can be sandals, flats, boots, kitten heels, etc. They can even be the new flatforms…if you’re in to those (but judging from the comments on that post, most women gave the flatforms a big thumbs down). So to be fair to all of the designer shoes out there, let’s look at some that are not high heels…

Miu Miu metallic banana flats
And let’s not leave the men out either! If a man wins the contest with the best shoe story, he could win a pair of designer shoes too! (Yes, this contest is open to everyone! We are just looking for good shoe stories to share!)
I hope you enjoyed the variety of shoes in this post!
